Iraq vs Vietnam

Those
who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Nowhere
is that saying more appropriate today than in the politicization of the war in
Iraq. As the Democrats are so oft to
remind us, we should not let Iraq turn into another Vietnam.
Yet
the Democrats on the extreme left of the political spectrum are doing their
best to do just that, by attempting to wrest control of the military from the
Pentagon, and viewing everything that happens in Iraq through a political
spectrum.
History
has shown that in Vietnam, the U.S. military won the battles, but the political
activists of the time caused America to lose the war. As the war in Vietnam continued, the political climate in America
shifted, and constrained our military forces from doing their job properly.
We're
seeing a repeat of that tragic political shift in America again today. Self-serving politicians are trying to usurp
control of the military, and build a political climate they hope will demand
withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq.
The
Congress gave the President authority to prosecute this war. Let's let our military forces do their job,
the job America sent them to do.
