Stop
The Stimulation!
by Kerry Thomas
July 7, 2009
In the 1990’s Susan Powter rose to fame screaming “Stop the insanity!” I have no idea what this Australian woman’s political ideologies are (she has described herself as a “radical feminist lesbian”), but it’s time to bring Susan back, as a spokeswoman for fiscal sanity in America.
For weeks now American media have been circulating rumors
about yet another “stimulus” of spending by the Obama Administration in an
attempt to revive the American economy.
This on top of the $700 Billion Troubled Asset Relief
Program (TARP) bailout of the banks (more formally known as the Emergency
Economic Stabilization Act of 2008).
This on top of the ongoing writing of blank checks to the
automobile industry despite bankruptcy filings by GM and Chrysler (wasn’t that
bailout supposed to keep these companies out of bankruptcy?), and the $787
Billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act “stimulus” that was
rushed through Congress in such an emergency that no one bothered to read the
bill before they voted on it.
We were told that America’s economy was under such a severe
threat that, unless this stimulus was passed right away, the unemployment rate
would rise to 8%. The stimulus was
passed – and the unemployment
rate is now 9.5% and headed for double digits.
According to Vice-President Joe Biden, “We
misread how bad the economy was.”
No kidding.
Despite such catastrophic errors in judgment, the Obama
Administration is plowing ahead with even more massive spending programs. And their fellow liberal
Democrats (oops, my mistake - they don’t like to be called liberals - they call
themselves progressives) can’t spend our money or grab power fast enough.
For some reason, they just don’t believe you
can’t spend your way out of debt. Liberal
Democrats (oops, my mistake - they don’t like to be called liberals - they call
themselves progressives) think the problem is they haven’t spent enough of your
money to “fix” the economy.
All this stimulation will “fix” the economy the
same way a veterinarian fixes a dog.
While the world was having a collective cow over the death
of yet another famous drug addicted freak, the House of Representatives pushed
through the Waxman-Markey cap-n-trade “clean energy” bill (HR2454:
American Clean Energy and Security Act) that
plowed through the House by a vote of 219-212 (roll call vote number 477), with virtually no one having read
the 1500+ page bill.
No one will be able to escape the treacherous tentacles of this
innocent sounding legislation. In a nutshell,
you’re going to be taxed based on your “carbon footprint” all in a misguided effort
to stop “global warming” despite overwhelming evidence that doesn’t exist. The “experts” got it wrong – again.
(Recall the April
28, 1975 article in Newsweek by Peter
Gwynne, warning us all about global cooling and the coming ice age.
According to that article, “There are ominous signs
that the Earth’s weather patterns have begun to change dramatically….The
evidence in support of these predictions has now begun to accumulate so
massively that meteorologists are hard-pressed to keep up with it.”)
Cap & trade is a federal mandate for energy
conservation, according to standards set by federal bureaucrats. Just one example, if you own a building (a
home, a business, any building) and you want to renovate or sell the building,
you will be required to first have an assessor evaluate the building’s value,
based on it’s energy efficiency. If the
building doesn’t meet the new federal standards for energy efficiency, you will
be required to bring it up to that standard before you can sell it. If you’re renovating, the building will have
to comply with this new federal standard by the time you’re finished with the
renovations. All property assessors
will be required to complete new training and be certified to evaluate property
based on energy efficiencies.
This legislation is also expected to double electricity prices,
and triple the price of gasoline. The cost
of energy is going to be artificially inflated by our government, all in a thinly-veiled
effort to increase tax revenues to the government.
(By now, you’re probably already aware that in 2007 Congress
outlawed the incandescent light bulb. Our
government decreed that the incandescent light bulb shall be no more after
2014. They’re being replaced by compact
fluorescent bulbs, which are only made in China because they contain dangerous
levels of mercury.)
And let’s not forget about the plans to nationalize our
health care industry. This massive new
bureaucracy will still leave 39 million people uninsured. Yet it will cost in excess of $1.6 Trillion.
So far, Barack Hussein Obama has managed to quadruple
America’s federal budget deficit for 2009 in less than six months, exploding it
from $450 Billion to over $1.8 Trillion.
That’s just this year. And his
reckless spending is expected to stay that high throughout his term in office,
which will end up doubling our collective national debt (currently
in excess of $11.5 Trillion) in just 4 years.
When the $787 billion stimulus bill was being
debated, Americans inundated Congress with phone calls, emails and letters
saying “NO.” When Congress debated the
$700 billion TARP bill, Americans were shouting “NO!”
Congress just keeps voting to spend the money
anyway.
How much more stimulation can America take?
